Hello all,

I am a long time viewer and first time poster. My leo, thor has been very sick this past month, and sadly today he passed away. I am very upset since he was my first leo. The vet told me he got a stomach infection of some sort and that is why he had not ate much. I was just curious if anybody else on this forum have had any experience with death of there geckos and how they handled it.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies guys.

I do not believe it was my fault. I did everything i could and in my power to do to save him. It just really bums me out. I guess everything happens for a reason

I'm sorry you lost your first gecko. Having more geckos do help lessen the pain IMO.

So sorry. I lost my first gecko in October and it was very hard. She was a part of the family. I ended up with 2 more after she passed. We still miss her but getting the other 2 did help some.

We had 4 that passed away from a mysterious illness. We were lucky it didn't spread to the rest. One of which was the last to go was the second gecko we got.

It was devestating loosing them all a few months apart from each other. The only thing that really helped was the simple fact that I knew we did everything in our power that we could do to try to save them. Countless visits to the vet, medicating, hand feedings... it was chaotic and beyond stressful. There were plenty of times where I would just break down when I was feeding them or holding them because nothing was helping them. It also helped because we knew we had the others to care for. When the last one was put to sleep in October, it was sad but it was also like a huge weight had been lifted off us.

Give it some time. If you have others, focus on them. They still need you. If Thor was your only one, wait until you are ready and feel comfortable bringing a new friend home. They will never take his place but you're giving another one a chance to have a happy, health life.

After all was said and done for us, our collection has grown to 17, along with 2 eggs sitting in the incubator.

It will get better.
