Thoughts on labeling anaimals as "Designers"

I wanted to get everyones opinion on labeling animals as 'Designer". I am not referring to animals that came from Ray of Designer Geckos (that obviously makes perfect sense). I am referring to the animals that are more or less "by products" or that did not hit the odds or the look that breeder was going for labeled as "Designers". I see this in many different lines and genetics but I think I notice it the most in Halloween Mask, Bolds, and Bandit offspring that don't fit those descriptions. Is this simply a way to move animals and make a few more bucks off of a Normal Leopard Gecko or am I missing something?

I don't particularly like the term myself. I think people use it as a synonym for "fancy" (which I don't really like either) and may mean anything that doesn't look like a normal gecko.

I don't like any name that over-inflates the price of a gecko... Atleast until I have geckos for sale...maybe I will call mine "custom"?? (JUST KIDDING!!) :)

To me, a "normal" gecko is one that has no unique patterning (standard banded pattern that breaks up into spots as they grow). I believe there do need to be terms used for geckos that are line bred for certain patterning but do not hit the standard. "Designer" sounds a bit pretentious... probably should just call them whatever most applies to the reason they aren't normal (Bold, Lavender, Aberrant, etc.).

I think designer should be used when you have a personal line-breeding project and start producing a steady "morph" so people aren't coming up with a billion different morph names, but more or less, generalizing that they have a personal touch to the gecko.
Idk.
I agree that it shouldn't raise price at all. Really, the sole thing a gecko should be priced on is how much someone is willing to pay for it and it's genetics.
As for bolds, I see 'designer' when it has everything except the nose band so they can't label bandit

In the old days, designer was the name labelling all kind of "different patern" that were not banded like normals (at the base the name designer was used for simple jungles as all the designer morphs or combos of today strated from simple jungle), designer is today mostly used to describ genetics (simple or polygenics) that influence the normal banded pattern of the animal to produce some unregularity in this pattern...

So actually, stripe, bold stripe, red stripes, lavender stripes, reverse stripe, jungle...etc...etc are all designer morphs....and this also taking in consideration all the combos...for exemple an Aptor, a Raptor, a raining red stripe...etc...etc...are also considered as designer morphs combos...

Designer basically can't be used to label all selective breeding line but simply all gekcos with a abnormal pattern considering the "normal pattern" as banded.
