I am new to UTH. I have bearded and have a basking light/spot for him. I have a UTH for my Geckos and the temps are around 90-92 (Its on a temp controller) with just paper towels for now. I was thinking about doing tile. Can anyone tell me how well this works with tile? Do they hold Temp well?

I have had no problems with a UTH and tile. I have one tank with heat cable that is near a window and doesn't seem to heat enough in the winter. I take the tile over the UTH out for the winter and use paper towel just there and have no problem.

I have tile in my tanks and it works great and is so easy to clean too. Just keep your temp contol set where it is (90-92) and it will keep the temps where they need to be no matter what substrate you use.

One trick I did was cut an extra peice for one end, the leos always pick one stop to poo in and I just wipe off that peice daily then run it through the dishwasher once a week and I have the spare to put in its place.

Tile is GREAT with under tank heaters...produces a really nice heat gradient since the heat transfers so well through it. I also agree that its very easy to clean. Tile is my substrate of choice.

Anyone have any problems with baby Roaches/Crickets getting inbetween or under tiles without sealing the cracks?

I don't have any experience with tile, but have the tiles cut the the EXACT size you need. Then you shouldn't have a problem!

actualyl get them cut about 1/8" smaller than you need, the tanks have silicone on all edges and corners so if they are cut exact they probably will not fit with the uneven areas of the silicone.

My tanks are 12x36 so I scraped out the silicone since I knew Id never use them for fish again and just use 3 12 x 12 tiles and the 3rd tile overlaps about 1/8" over the last one so I can pull it up easier to wash it.

I buy cheap (.14 each) 4.25" square bathroom tiles and put those down in the corners as "poop tiles". Recently I've started making ceramic squares with a little lip to use. I glaze the word "poops" in the middle of the tile.
