Lowes has a small tile cutter for around $55.00, if you just have a small project you can take the tiles into them and they will cut them to the length you want. They charge per a cut but I don't remember how much.
If you have a glass cutter, or any pointed object which could score the tile surface, use it. Score the glazed top. Right under the scored line on one end of the tile, place a piece of stick. The stick should run parallel to the scored line. Push down on each end of the tile, the score mark and stick in the center. Bending it like this ^. The tile will snap along the scored line.
cool thanks fro the advice if i was to score the tile how deep do u think it would need to be, just trhough the glaze? or do u need to go deeper. thanks for the help
I got a cutter at home depot ~$20. It scores, then you press down on a handle to make it snap.
Note: to cut tile like this you can't just cut a half inch off. Like if you had a 13" tile, and only needed 12" you would need to cut 2 6" wide pieces. It needs the scoring to be a couple inches from the edges to break cleanly.
yeah, the first time i bought tile it was too big, so i bought one of those manual/handheld tile cutters and i ended up cracking the whole tile in half... waste of time and money
needless to say, i had to go back to lowes and buy some more tile, and they cut it for free
