Hey I have a bunch of tile and I use under tank heaters to maintain temperature in my leo tanks.. I was wondering how it would work if I kept the heater how it is and used floor tile as my substrate!!! Would it maintain heat at the temps i need it?

Thanks!!

one of my tanks has tile in it. i put play sand underneath it as an isulator. my gecko cannot get to the sand, so dont worry, the tiles are cut to fit my tank perfectly. I find that tile keeps heat well. i'd go with tile and see how well you like it. im just finding it a pain in the butt because of when i clean the whole tank and take everything out, that means taking out the tile and sand gets everywhere XD

There's a little trick to making a tank easy to clean if you use tiles. Most geckos use the potty in one spot inside the tank. When you find out what that spot is, simply put a paper towel down on that spot and they will go on the paper towel. Then you can take the towel out alone and change it as needed. Not all geckos do this but for those that do it makes it simpler.

Optimally you want a digital thermostat, and a thermometer.

After you have your UTH and tile in place as you're going to use it you want to give it time to become fully heated, and take the temperature at ground level.

You may need to adjust your thermostat, a degree or two at a time, until your floor temp registers approximately 95 degrees. There will likely be a difference between your thermometer setting and registered temperature. This is to be expected considering the thickness, and thermal properties of tile. Record the difference for future reference/recalibrations.
