Tile & Tanks

I've been doing some reading on using ceramic tile or self stick in my tanks to make it a little easier on cleaning and using so many paper towels.

I have read bad and good on ceramic tile, does it get really hot? Maybe to hot for the gecko's? I use a single thermometer in all my tanks and the temp's stay stable with the UTH's I use 5 zoomed 10-20 gallon in each tank, but I don't want it to over heat and hurt them while I was at work or something. I haven't got the big one hooked up yet (that's a money saving project on going).

Would the self stick tile be better to use? I know with the ceramic placing something under it might not make it as hot? Just really confused about it. I don't want to risk them getting burned just to make tanks look better and easier to clean.

Thanks!

I use ceramic tiles in all my tanks. The heating mats are connected to thermostats, so the ground temperature is stable at around 91-92F on the warm side. I suppose if you don't use a thermostat or dimmer, by putting a towel or something between the heat mat and the tile will lower the heat transmission.

I also use ceramic tile on my tanks. I don't find that it gets too hot, actually in the coldest part of the winter I worry about it not getting hot enough. The biggest problem I find with too much heat is when heat gets trapped in the hide area. In that case I move the hides around so they're not over the hottest part of the tank.

I didn't think it would be bad, but it's like searching and researching it on other forums, and websites people were fighting about it being bad as using sand in the tanks, I didn't think it would be.

I'm going to use an empty tank and place the tile in it with papertowels under the tile, and use a heat gun to see how hot it gets in a couple days just to test it until I can get my big thermo hooked up to all of them.

my tile was like $1.74 for the 12x12 (11.6x11.6 actually) and the 6x6 were actually more expensive i think. i got it at lowes, but they couldn't cut it for me there (probably why a bigger and better lowes is being built in the same plaza as we speak)
