Hi!

So reading all these breeding post ..so many get me confused! I would like to just clear a few questions up so I'm not giving mixed messages! lol

So I know you have to wait until it's breeding season and the female has to be ovulating in order to accept the male ..but after that

1. So do you put the male in the females tank? or the female in the males tank?

2. If copulation happens right away, does that mean breeding was successful and there will be eggs ( fertile or unfertile ).?

3. If I do not see copulation right away do I leave the male/female in the ones tank? ( if their not fighting or getting annoyed with each other ) or should I take him/her out and try again in a few days / weeks ? Does breeding/copulation happen right away after introducing them?

4. If I leave them in, how long do I keep them in for .. and how long should I wait before introducing again? how will know if they humped and I didn't see I don't want to put him/her in if copulation already happened without me knowing! Will she start to show signs after 1 week of copulation?

Thank You sorry it's so long!
Hope someone can clear things up for me!

Ok I've seen answers to ALL those questions in other threads repeatedly. I think you need to do a little more reading hon.

The way I had my male and female was I kept them in the same cage all season. Never had a problem.. Just watch the female and make sure the male isnt stressing her out. And watch both of there weight to make sure nobodys hogging all the food :)

Hi!

Male into female's tank - less stressful for the female.

2. If copulation happens right away, does that mean breeding was successful and there will be eggs ( fertile or unfertile ).?
Even breeding was successful, whether or not fertile eggs will be produced depends on a lot of factors. So, can't say for sure; but usually you'll get some fertile eggs.

3. If I do not see copulation right away do I leave the male/female in the ones tank? ( if their not fighting or getting annoyed with each other ) or should I take him/her out and try again in a few days / weeks ? Does breeding/copulation happen right away after introducing them?
Haha I'd just been through all that...I'd say if you witnessed copulation right away, you can remove your male; if not, then its better to leave them together for several days. Just make sure the female is receptive.

4. If I leave them in, how long do I keep them in for .. and how long should I wait before introducing again? how will know if they humped and I didn't see I don't want to put him/her in if copulation already happened without me knowing! Will she start to show signs after 1 week of copulation?
I left my pair together for one week; and I believed they've mated sometime between day 2-4. I'm just guessing that they may have mated due to all the bite marks on my female's body, and that both of them had a bruise on their cheek one morning...Other than that, its hard to tell whether they've successfully mated. Just keep checking the female's belly, if there is no sign of her forming eggs, then reintroduce them after a couple of weeks. If the female is gravid, she will not be receptive anymore.

Thank You sorry it's so long!
Hope someone can clear things up for me!

Male in with female, male will breed anywhere but female might be less willing to accept in another territory.

2. If copulation happens right away, does that mean breeding was successful and there will be eggs ( fertile or unfertile ).?
Could do, could not. If i see copulation, i take out the male and reintroduce in 3 or 4 days, re introducing should increase your rates of them being fertile eggs. stop introducing once she is gravid if you want.

3. If I do not see copulation right away do I leave the male/female in the ones tank? ( if their not fighting or getting annoyed with each other ) or should I take him/her out and try again in a few days / weeks ? Does breeding/copulation happen right away after introducing them?
If copulation isnt seen then you can leave the male in overnight, thats what i do, i know some people who leave in constantly some people who would never leave him in.

4. If I leave them in, how long do I keep them in for .. and how long should I wait before introducing again? how will know if they humped and I didn't see I don't want to put him/her in if copulation already happened without me knowing! Will she start to show signs after 1 week of copulation?
leave them in for as long as you want if your female isnt getting too stressed. introduce them everyday if your female isnt getting stressed.
and i find a good way to know copulation has happened is if the female has little nibbles up her tail and then a bite mark on her neck. But thats not certain so if you dont see eggs you might want to repeat question 2

haha i copied Bonnies way of answering lol.

I'm sorry but if did you not notice what I had said before I asked the questions?

"THERE WERE POST ABOUT SOME OF THESE QUESTIONS, BUT READING THEM THERE WAS ALWAYS DIFFERENT ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS. SO I'M MAKING THIS POST SO I GET A STAPLE ANSWER SO I'M NOT GETTING MIXED MESSAGES OF DOING THIS OR THAT FROM READING DIFFERENT POSTS"

Thanks.

Wow... ok... you're going to get mixed messages regardless of whether or not the info you're looking for is on several different threads or all compact onto this one but... I just know that over the last few weeks there have been several posts that addressed these specific issues you were asking and don't know how long it's been since you checked the threads... the same people that replied on those would likely address here as well but I know it can get frustrating answering the same things over and over. Sorry... was trying to direct you to some other info sources since this thread wasn't getting much response.

None of those questions have definitively right or wrong answers, only people's opinions. That's why you're seeing so many different answers in different threads.
