I have no idea what the temps were from where they were shipped yesterday, but I do know that the breeder I purchased them from checks the temps before they are shipped so they had to have been okay. I know that when they were delivered this morning it was in the upper 80's. There were no cold packs in the box, but it wasn't supposed to get anywhere near this hot.

what city and state were they shipped from? sometimes a TOS will be invalid if temps reach a certain level. you also have to consider if there were any stops between being shipped and delivered. again, im so sorry this happened, but this info might help shed light on what happened. we personally will not ship if temps are over 90.

I looked up the weather from where they were shipped and it was only like 80 something degrees yesterday, so they should have been fine. The humidity down here might be the issue because it's so humid outside it's literally hard to breathe. It's ridiculous.

This really sucks. I'm sorry for your loss. We should all be careful when to ship animals right now. There has been alot of really hot weather lately across the country and no matter how excited you are to receive your little ones, it would be better to wait a few days or longer until it cools down.

Definitely. We should have waited to have them shipped, especially since they were babies. I think that's why I feel so bad about it.

I've never used shipyourreptiles so I don't know but I wonder if they have temperature controlled delivery trucks. Being that they specialize in live animal delivery, they may be the better option for shipping when it's hot. Does anyone know about this?

They ship via Fedex and i don't think they're trucks are climate controlled. As bad as this sounds, I'm really mad at Fedex for that fact. I think that if they're going to ship live animals then that should be a requirement.

Very sorry for the loss... I lost a few geckos in a shipment I sent out several years ago... Now I do not ship unless I'm comfortable doing so... Have had a gecko pending to ship to New Mexico [thanks Chris she's doing great] for several weeks now, but can't ship due to high temps... I don't trust cold packs so my preferable summertime temps are overnight low in the mid 60's - low 70's with a daytime high of mid 70's - low 80's... It really sucks having to wait, on the other hand, the gecko is not a full size ready to breed adult so she'll continue to grow here in the meantime...

I hope you have a better experience next time!

P.s.

I've been looking into buying fish online via aquabid.com and most people ship via usps... That's scary, but I know people used to [still do?] ship herps that way... Imagine receiving a snake in a poster tube... :main_laugh:

getting a snake in a poster tube would be nothing short of hilarious. (lol)....

I hope that next time will be okay. I think that instead of getting all excited I will wait though to be 100% sure about the temps since it's been so unstable in AL.

I do most of my shipping via USPS. I'm curious to know how these geckos were packed. In the past few weeks I have shipped dart frogs and red eyes to El Paso, Tucson, Miami and Boas to the San Antonio area without issues. Leopard geckos are much hardier than frogs which makes me suspect their packing was insufficient.

They were packed the exact same way as all of our other geckos we have ordered, and all those have made ith here fine. So i dont think thats the reason.

I'm sorry your geckos didn't make it, but I'm glad the seller offered you options.
