Too hot?

I have my hot spot set to 90 degrees, and that's about what the hot side stays. The cool side is between 75-80. But I've been using a red light just for viewing, and it's heating up the top of the rock hide to about 104. One of my girls likes to be up there. She seems to like the heat, but is this going to hurt her?

It might be too hot. I remember Marcia saying the most she's had her's get up to was 98. I'd cool it down a bit.

Thats to hot IMO, just use an UTH for heating, for viewing them go with a flourescent light, gives off light but very little heat.

Doesn't the flourescent light bother them? I only used the red light b/c I thought the bright light stressed them out.

Yes, if I were you I'd stick with the UTH set at 90.

If its left on, I was talking about for viewing, not leaving on all the time. You can use it for viewing and to see to feed etc... defently dont leave it on all the time.

Blacklights work really well for viewing, don't give off much heat, and look really cool too. I tried it with mine and they didn't seem to mind the blacklight at all as opposed to the regular flourescent lights.

Blacklights get really hot, I use them sometimes for my scorpions and in a matter of a min or two, the fixture is hot as heck. The light they give off is also very dim. Bright lights for short periods of times arent going to hurt them:main_thumbsup:

thanks, all. problem solved -- I found a .75 watt red light just for viewing. it puts out barely enough light to see by, but almost no heat.
