torture

My roomate has 5 Leopard Gecko's. We live in San Diego by the beach. I've noticed they look horrible in the winter and am wondering if he is torturing them. We do not have heat in the house, and while San Diego is a mild climate it does get cold by the beach in the winter. The temperature will be between 50 and 65 all week for instance. The house is probably averaging 60 during the winter. He has no heat sources for any of the lizards. Is this torture? I also noticed if they are lucky they get fed once a month. Im not much of a fan of caged animals, but at least some people give them some attention and care that they need. What do you guys think?

Some people purposely send their Leopard geckos in to brumation in the winter but you have to make sure that they are very healthy before you do this. So, if they are healthy then there may not be anything wrong with it but if it's because he just doesn't have a heat source for them any time during the year then that's a problem. Does he not have an under tank heater or anything?

Yeah that doesnt sound good. Although maybe your roommate is letting them brumate/hibernate but I dont know what is involved with doing that or if he/she is even doing it right.

Even if they were getting fed once a month at those temperatures(50-65) the geckos would not be able to digest and could lead to serious health problems.

Its also a bad situation for you because well what do you do? Go to your roommate and say "Hey I think you are abusing your animals, you need to change what your doing..." Im sure your roomie wouldnt like that.

Do you like your roommate? lol
