Traveling for the holidays

With Thanksgiving and Winter break coming up I will be at my parents and away from my place for an extended period of time. I figured the geckos could come with and I would simply keep them in some plastic bins and sweater boxes (monitored heating and humidity, and hide caves of course) for the few weeks. My concern is with transporting them. What is the best method to do so? Are smaller deli containers better than transporting them in larger containers? Is there a correct way to "package" them so they have less chance of moving around and hurting themselves? Should they all be separated? and anything else along those lines. I have eight total. 2X 2 months, 1X 3month, 1x4 month, 1X 5 month. Three adults the largest 9 inches from nose to tail tip. I'm traveling by train.

Thanks,

Reid

If you're travelling by train, I assume that you're not only going to have to carry the geckos, but also all your stuff. Consider packaging them as if you were going to ship them which would involve deli cups with paper towel at the bottom, cardboard boxes lined with styrofoam. Label the boxes as if you were shipping them as well in case something happens on the train. There is lots of info around about how to box for shipping.

If you can get someone where you are to water the geckos, you could also bring the babies and leave the adults in their usual place because they will be OK without a lot of food for awhile. If you're going home for THanksgiving, coming back and then going home again for winter break, consider leaving all of them at home for the first break so you don't have to travel with them twice.

I will be splitting the two breaks up. Thanksgiving will only be a week. Winter break will be around a month probably.

I'm most likely going to package them up nice, and take all them with me for both breaks. There planning on putting new windows in my apartment over thanksgiving break, so I don't feel comfortable leaving them if it might get cold.

I'm at University and pretty much everyone will be home for the holidays and not here. There is the possibility of leaving them with my parents after thanksgiving so they do not have to make twice the amount of trips, but I don't see my mother taking care of them (She's actually has reptile and insect phobias), and my father travels a bunch himself for work.

I'm also traveling home for the holidays, but for a shorter period of time (5 days max)

My leo is only 3 months old, and I've only had him for about 2 and a half weeks now. His cage is easy enough to transport back home (1.5 hour drive) but do you think he'll be too stressed on the drive back home / many other people crowding around his cage?

I know for me, I have 3 leo's and they stay at school over this vacation and come home for christmas. they always have food and water left over when i get back too..so maybe skip the stress for thanksgiving and leave them. i think of it as they get a little vacation without some homan bothering them all the time :)

I would just make sure that whatever you put your leos in, it should be opaque and absorb the shock of the ride (as much as possible).
