Tremper Giant?

How long does it take to know if you have a regular Tremper Albino or a Giant Tremper Albino? I weighed my leos today and Pimp weighed in at 80 grams. He gained 2 grams in a 5 day period. Here is a recent image of him along with my Murphy's Patternless, Lulu; who weighed in at 34 grams.

Did the Tremper come from a Giant background? If not, they generally are not genetic giants. If so, after about 1 year to a year and a 1/2 they seem to top out.

You can also tell if it's a giant by the way its built. We had a giant that we bought from a great breeder who knew that his (and her, actually) background was giant. Strangely enough neither of them got over 90 grams. BUT they were both "built like giants" larger limbs wider heads, longer bodies, etc.

We also seem to be known for having 'abnormally large geckos'. Some purchases (and offspring) that supposedly did not come from a giant background turned out to be 100+ grams and larger than some of our geckos that were bought as giants. I have personally given up on deciding if a gecko is or is not giant. Either way, they either get really really big, or they just don't. I'm not sure if I'd really classify a full grown leo to be a giant if it's under 100 grams; but that's just an observation I have made.

You gecko is beautiful though! Very nice :)

Im not sure of Pimp's background. I purchased him at Herpeton in north Austin, Texas along with another Tremper Albino. The guy said they were both the same age and Pimp, after about three months of having them, was already double her size. Sadly, Lil Mama died a few months ago. I nor the vet could understand what had happened to her. She was eating great and extremely active and loved to be held. I woke up one day and her body had just started to become stiff . Here is an image of Lil Mama.

I have never seen the Sire and Dame for Pimp. I guess Im just hoping for him to be a Giant. He is nearly 10 inches long, maybe longer. I will try to measure his length today. I will weigh him again before my surgery, October 2nd. I predict he will be at least 3-4 grams heavier.

Thank you for the help and all the great comments.

It's tough to know other than test breeding to see if it is a Genetic Giant or not... I know Ryan and Val have some massive non Giant geckos :)

His body structure doesn't really look like a giant IMO. Giant males are typically easier to tell than giant females because they have very long tails and longer, broader heads. I would guess that you just have a really big boy who like to eat! The only way to know for sure it to prove them out though. He would produce 50% giants, 50% non-giants (when bred to a normal) if he is a giant.

Beautiful Giant you got here...cant wait to see his size compared compared to the Mack....Thank you all for clearing up my curiosity(spelling?)....---note--- The very first picture in this thread is of Pimp...the last one I post is of a normal Tremper Albino that died a few months ago...just to clear up any cofusion there might be.

yea, I see what you mean about the size difference. I think I do just have a large Tremper Albino rather than a Tremper Giant. Thanks for all of the help and pics to refer to...more than likely I will have more questions in the near future so all advice and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
