True Snow?

This has been bugging me for a while but I have just now gotten around too posting it. Maybe I`m thinking to much into Snakes but generally an Axanthic/Anerythristic animal crossed to an Albino/Amelanistic produces what we call a Snow, examples are a Snow Ball, Snow Corn,Snow Boa, the list goes on.

I was thinking since Macks have been claimed to be an Axanthic mutation(which I`m pretty sure they are) wouldn't it be easier to call them Axanthics instead of Macks/TUG/Gem/etc, I mean genetically speaking thats what they are correct? So an Axanthic x Albino would equal Snow, therefore wouldn't a Mack(Or any other strain for that matter) crossed with an albino technically be a "True" Snow? I am not trying to bash anyone just a little food for thought.

Man you think too much lol jk

But yeah it would be easier to call them Axanthics and i think they should.
there is too much confusion going on with all the snow crap.

Well I mean the Macks created the mutation so they do have the right to call them whatever they wanted but I still think it would be easier to call them Axanthics or Anerys.

See Line-Bred Axanthics,Mack Axanthics,Gem Axanthics, etc would make it so much easier then saying Snow, since in the reptile industry snows are generally a Double Homozygous mutation.

I think we should just stick to how it is right now. Leopard gecko crosses are going to be different than snake crosses. I think it is easier to call a super snow tremper albino, just that. If we switched the name, would we call them snow tremper albino, or exactly how would all of that work?

In the land of easy life.I'd keep line snow as that due to how they was created. Then TUG/GEM/MAC i'd class as the same snow but refer to MAC's as snow het super snow.Coz MAC bred to MAC/TUG/GEM give super snow. That in my book would make life a little easyer just having.
LINE-SNOW.
SNOW.
SNOW HET SUPER SNOW.
SUPER SNOW.

Actually Nigel, I think you brought up a good point. But what would we call a Super Snow Tremper Albino, if we didn't call it snow at first. I was actually really wondering this.

Super Snow since its a Super Axanthic and an Albino.

So it would still be a Super Snow Tremper Albino, because you would have to tell what albino gene is in it, right.

do all crosses of TUG/GEM/Mack give in homozygous form a MSS?

No, Mack Snow is the only gene that will give you Super Snow. Gem snow is dominate, and will look the same no matter what, unless mixed with other genes. The Urban Gecko snow isn't a gene, they believe that the Axanthic gene (it just means, it has little to no yellow) is dominate. I don't think that this is true. However TUG lines are line breed. So TUG x TUG snow equals 100% UG line Breed Snow. So to answer your question, you can only get SS, from Mack Snows. All the other snows, are either line breed, or dominate; the mack snow is co-dom. Which is much like dominate, expert it appears different in the het state then it does in the homozygous state. The homozygous state of a co-dom is called the super form. Just like a Super Giant, is a homozygous form of a giant, same thing with mack snows.

Hope that helps answer your question.

Macks Snows are not true Axanthic, so i would say no we should not call them that IMO.

I`m just curious as to how they are not true axanthics?

I like the idea of calling mutations what they do, but with all the different lines/genes, things would get very mixed up if everyone just started calling their 'snows' axanthics (whether their snows were Mack, TUG, Gem Albey's or whatever) It's a dangerous over-generalization. All these names help us to differentiate between all the different blood lines and specific genes, that may be phenotypically similar or even identical...

But when thinking about genetics as ingredients to create a certain appearance; I like to think of the Mack snow as an "axanthic" gene, it's a "genetic paintbrush" that removes all yellow(color), inverts the banding to create the "striped" pattern, and causes solid colored eyes in its most extreme form.

And not to confuse things, but supposedly, some folks have produced Mack supers by breeding Mack snows to Gem snows...???
