trying to figure it out

i am kinda new to the forum. i had two leos that i acquired from a local pet store. my husband and i tried everything we could think of but they never got bigger. one died about a month ago and we found the other one this morning. we have your children so this was not so easy for them. we will try again as we are fascinated by these little guys. i don't think the geckos were healthy to begin with. i have found some at another pet store with folks who have their own reptiles and understand their care. they are willing to let us see them feed and discuss the care they have had at this point. they are also heartier and seem more alert. wish us luck! i'm sure this will not be the last you hear from me.

Buying from a breeder is a much better option, you know they will be healthy and you can get the genetics. Plus your supporting a breeder and usually you can go back for advice, help from them.

Chain stores, are bad IMO. 9 times out of 10.

the problem that we have had is finding a breeder locally. our time is limited with three young children. we found a store with people who seem qualified. i know the owner personally. their animals are hearty and healthy. the reptile care person was able to show us them feeding and a feeding record. she was able to share with us their care histoy since they arrived at their shop, about a month ago. she told us that she is willing to help us with anything we need. we found our new friend there and she/he is so cute and very different from the others that we had. i will post pix when available.

Gecko's at a pet store are a bad idé, but if you do so. You should go back if you suspect something.

The extra shipping costs to get from a good breeder is worth it IMO. However if you feel comfortable with them. Good Luck.

Ive bought a couple geckos from stores so far they have all turned out healthy. two were healthy from a local pet store but the other two were rescues from a chain store (one had a broken leg, and the other was emaciated) sometimes it just depends on the situation but if you feel the people are knowledgeable and the animals are healthy I say, go for it, good luck. If you have questions, ask here.

thanks everyone!

we go our new gecko- gobi, home last night. she is awesome. night and day different from the others. she is very active and tons of fun to watch. she climbs on everything. my kids are so funny when they laugh and carry on watching her climb and hunt. i'm watching her closely so that she continues to thrive.
