That really depends on the gecko. I've heard of others having geckos who will only eat crickets. Mine on the other hand, clearly favors mealworms and will walk past 5 or 6 crickets to get that one worm in the center :main_laugh:

Most geckos, from what I've seen and read, love waxworms, but these should never be a staple diet since they are so fatty.

If you're having trouble getting a gecko to eat, I'd suggest offering them a waxworm to spark their interest. If you still don't get a response, then there is a recipe for a wonderful slurry located in a sticky in the medical portion of the forums

I know some people feed their geckos roaches as well, but I don't personally have any experience with those.

I can vouch for the slurry's success! I have a rather thin female I just picked up, she recently laid a clutch and hasn't been putting the weight back on afterward so I whipped up some of the slurry and she's ALL over it :) I hope to keep her on it for a little while just to get some meat on her little bones. I'd definitely recommend you try that if you still can't get them to eat normally.

It's not uncommon for a gecko to cease eating while it's shedding. Did you gecko experience any complications during the shed such as stuck skin on toes, or was it able to smoothly remove all of the skin on its own?

skin shedding

It shed all its skin with no problems at all. I have just tried organic step1 baby food and got it to lick its nose a few times but didnt seem interested. It does seem to be active alittle when you are holding it. thanks for helping me with this.:)

95% of Leopard Geckos really love waxworms and silkworms, silkworms are more expensive, but have like half the fat of crickets and are like 6 times higher in crude protein than crickets... Id give silkies a try if i were you... maybe it wants something else.... heres a small list of some feeders which you can use...

- mealworms
- crickets
- superworms
- calci worms/ phoenix worms
- hoppers/ Locusts
- dubia roaches
- lobster roaches
- waxworms
- silkworms

There are loads of different feeders which you can use...

Regards...Rich...;)

My Leo likes crix, but when I got mealies he went crazy over them.
Are you still feeding him dried mealies? Try just regular live mealies maybe.

Since it did just shed, I wouldn't be worried as long as this doesn't go on for more than a few days to a week. He may not be eating because geckos usually eat their shed and that can be quite the big meal. Are you aware whether or not he ate the shedded skin? And has he deficated since he stopped eating?
