Update on Obi & Dante

Since our trip to the vet this past Thurs, Obi still was loosing weight at a drastic pace. I had called the vet Sat. to find out if there was anything else we should be doing, but alas the Dr. wasn't in. The receptionist (who has no reptile experience) just gave us "Just keep doing what you're doing and it should work." bit. So in the course of 6 days Obi dropped from 5g 2oz to 4g. This alarmed me greatly, seeing as he hasn't any weight to spare as is. So I've been keeping a close eye on him. Upon seeing his condition worsen, I called the vet again this morning. Once again the Dr. wasn't in. But they did happen to refer me to a vet that was nearly 2 hours away. So I jetted out of work early and packed them up for the trip as soon as I got home. Once getting there we were seen by the Dr. (omg, he was actually there! 0.o) and he did a fecal test (good this I grabbed it on the way out the door) and behold. Parasites. So now they're on Panacur once a week for the next few weeks. Hopefully they can bounce back from this. Dante I'm sure will, but Obi I'm not so sure.

Keep these little guys in your prayers, cause right now they really need it.

Good luck with them.
Parasites can be present for a number of reasons, but the easiest for you to help counter is to try and keep your cage as clean as possible.

Always try and remove any uneaten food, and always remove stool and urate from the tank as soon as you notice it. Uneaten food (crickets, mealworms etc) will feed on the stool and urate, ingesting parasites, your gecko will then eat that food.

If your using reptile carpet, you should spray that with a suitable reptile disinfectant about once every 3 weeks (I think once a month is the standard, but I generally do it every third weekend) ... leave the disinfectant to soak for half an hour, then put it in a cold wash (no detergent). Also, spray and rinse all your tank furniture, backdrops, platforms etc. Sounds like a chore, but it takes less than an hour, gives you piece of mind and you really don't want the stress and expense of vet trips if your gecko does become ill.

You probably know this anyway, but it's worth mentioning for anyone else who may be reading this thread.

That is generally what I do on a daily basis. Stool and uneatten food does not sit in there for very long. I'm a bit of a nut about that. But I will start disinfecting the tank as well. Funny cause I was actually going to call the Dr. on that today. lol.

I've also read about other people using a watered down bleach solution to do this kind of stuff as well. Will get started on that routine. :)

Around.
It sucks to hear they have parasites.. but I bet it still gives you a piece of mind! I wish you good luck! :) Hopefully everything will turn out right and they will start eating like they should!

I sure hope so. Obi has apparently been hanging out in his water dish all day, I hope he's being dopey/lazy and there's not an even bigger problem opposed to what they've got going on right now.
