Back last April I got a 5 month old bell albino from a lady who could no longer take care of her. When I recieved her she weighed only 12 grams. Here is Nala's story.

Here she is at around 12 grams. She was only around 5 inches long.

I took her to the nearest herp vet and her fecal came back with parasites. So she was treated for two types with two different medicine.

After completing the parasite meds there was no improvement in her health. She would not eat and was very lethargic so I decided to put her on baytril for bacterial infection.

After being on the baytril for 7 days Nala started doing worse than ever. It seemed as if she was having a bad reaction to the medicine.

She dropped down to her lowest weight while on baytril. She was only 9 grams and I began to fear the worse. So I took her off the baytril.

She improved after being taking off baytril and I was advised by Marcia that since Nala had not eaten on her own in such a long time that she had developed fatty liver disease.

So I started her on Marcia's slurry twice a day to combat the fatty liver disease. Once she became more stable I tried baytril again and this time the treatment was successful.

It was a slow process but eventually Nala began gaining weight and growing again.

Today I am proud to say she is up to 30 grams and 7 inches long.

I do believe her sick past has stunted her growth however. But atleast she is doing better and happy. She is my little polly pocket. :)

You must have been very worried when she had a bad reaction to the medicine. Anyway, congratz on her recovery. She's looking much better now

how did you treat her from fatty liver? how long have you been giving baytril? can you tell the doses and the course of treatment? I had a similar problem with one of mine and the gecko died - I really don't want this to happen again, so I could use your method in the future maybe..

Treatment for fatty liver disease is consistent feeding. I gave her baytril 7 days the first time and 10 days the second time. It is not medicine you continuously give them. I got the baytril from my vet (it was dosed to her weight) I have her 1 drop on the nose per day. I am sorry to hear about your gecko. I hope this helps.

You did a great job with her! Unfortunately, her growth may have indeed been stunted and her tail may never get super chunky...I have a rescue from 2001 who was so thin it was painful to look at her but she is still alive and well. She has always been a little on the thin side since her rescue...no matter how much she eats. :) Of course, this equates to major jealousy from the other female leos who are far from waif-ish...lol.

Aw, that was a great story! I hear about disastrous rescues all the time, so this really made my day!
