It's ok.

I don't like how you've got all the links on the side highlighted in the gray color. It makes it look a little sloppy. :-\

With the banner.. Is there a way to make it longer instead of blocky? Basically more rectangular? It seems a little thrown together. I dunno.. Just my opinion.

The high-lighted grey color is an accident. Google pages has really crappy html coding, so I'll have to go in and over-ride that. I should have mentioned in my first post that I intended the links to have the black background with the light text. /Not/ the crappy grey highlight.

Yes, there is a way to edit the banner, unfortunately it will distort the picture. I'm sure I'll figure a way to make it a more ideal shape.

Honestly... needs some work. May I suggest going with a free blogger or wordpress account (or even squidoo or hubpages) where you'd have access to many free templates to play with?

I would have to agree with Whitney. It does look a little sloppy and thrown together. I would probably not have the black on the banner stick into the grey. I think it might look nice, if the gecko kidda jumps from one color to another, if you know what I mean. I might also make the links on the side, a little bit bigger, so they are easier to read. Just my thoughts.

I'm currently working over on freewebs to try to come up with a better layout from scratch.

I still need to clean the image up a bit, but does this look a little better than the google layout?

Also, what is the best size of font to use? Sometimes large font looks ridiculous, so I'm aiming for something that is readable without looking incredibly tacky. Opinions on font color?

Okay, i like that much better, than the first webpage you gave. I couldn't tell you the exact size to use. I would have to play around with it. I guess look at other sites, and figure it out from there.

The second one is much better. I'd work on the white background. If you want to stick with grays, use the black centers with a charcoal (or whatever the color the background of the "news and updates area is) background or just stick with a solid black page..

As for the font size of the links. Try one size larger, they're a little small.
