Urgent UTH question

Ok I was just setting up a new cage and I put the UTH under the vision cage sticky side up with about 3/4 inch of space between my desk and the cage. I just plugged the UTH in and for about 15-20 seconds i could see a single spot glowing thru the bottom of my Vision cage. Deafinetly an arc. Just curious if this is something that happens on new UTHs when you first plug them in or should I imediately unplug this thing. I am keeping a very close eye on it right now.

Ok I just inspected it and noticed that it actualy burnt a hole straight thru the heat pad. So I unhooked it of course. It was an exo terra. Can anyone recommend a good heat pad that i can stick on the bottom underneath my vision cage. this one lasted about 1 minute. lol Glad i saw it before it started a fire.

Oh my goodness I'm glad you caught it in time! I use a really cheap one I bought at Pet Supermarket by Four Paws. It's called "Natures Heat" under tank heater. Haven't had a problem with it yet. If you still have the reciept for that thing I would go back to the store if I were you and demand my money back, or at least get store credit.

thanks for all the replies. Yeah i am pretty glad i caught it also. Would deafinetly not be good to have that catch fire while i was sleeping or away.
I have an extra exo terra and i just picked up a zoo med. Like I always say you can never have to many extra heating pads and things lying around. lol Now I just need more lizards to fill my extra cages.

I use a Zoo Med. I haven't had a bit of problem with it. It sticks nicely to the bottom of my tank, and I have had no problem with it getting too hot at all.
