Well your gecko should be sleeping during the day so thats ok. I use bulbs on a couple of tanks. They are just normal 60 wat bulbs and they keep the temp right at 85 degrees. The only problem is that geckos benifit most from belly heat and unfortunatly the bulb doesn't do a very good job at that. I used to use red bulbs and just leave them on at all times but the bulbs went out quickly and it was really cheap just to buy some heat tape. Keep in mind gecko's don't really "bask" because they are nocternal, they just need heat to keep their metabolism up and stay healthy.

I have a SHTCT that is ALWAYS basking on top of her hide during the day, she seems to love it, even if I put her under the hide she just crawls back on top, it wont hurt her will it?

Occassionally I will see my geckos on top of ornaments that receive a bit of sunlight at the very top during the day. They sit there for a bit then move away. However like everyone else stated they are nocturnal, and really don't benefit from that type of light. If anything some morphs will be overly sensitive with the light. I'm going through that with a Albino atm. Only thing my tanks get are UTH. Otherwise there is no other light/heat source. Have correct temperatures and your gecko's should be active (not usually during the day). Have incorrect temps. they will be more sluggish.

you should not really use any overhead heating. I always advise heating from below as it helps them to digest there food. Dave

The WHISPERER: The UTH is about 85 with the light off and 90 with it on, but they have plenty of room on the cold side, and there is a bigger hide in the middle of the hot and cold side that is warmish. Is that an ok temperature? It's a special daylight bulb for reptiles.
