USPS Express Shipping?

Anyone ever tried USPS Overnight Express shipping? My friend just sent me 4 new geckos in a 12x9x7" box for only $30. Got a call at 10am on the scheduled day of delivery to make sure I was home to receive it. Got them at 10:30am off the mail truck. They actually made my house the very first stop so that they weren't on the truck for long, and the mail woman's supervisor told her to handle the box as little as possible. I was quite impressed to say the least :)
Any one else had experiences with the USPS Express service? I'd like to know if it's just my town's postal service.

I have not had good experiences with the USPS. They will charge you for overnight delivery, but will not guarantee overnight to many postal addresses. Getting a refund requires going to the post office and filling out paperwork, which is a hassle. Their tracking system leaves much to be desired, too. In some cases, packages are contracted out to commercial airlines, and most will not accept anything live because they are transported in the cargo area which has very low temperatures and little oxygen at the altitudes they fly.

Dont expect that good of service all of the time.

ive used them.
arrival time isnt guaranteed as early, and often seemed to be late in my experiences

Yes I know Dennis and I did not have a good experience with USPS.

It really does depend on where you are located and your local USPS office. I know a few people that have had a good experience with them such as yourself, but I personally would not use them again to ship anything alive.
There's just too much of a risk in my opinion and as Marcia said, their tracking system is horrible.

I know that all shipping carriers aren't perfect but I have heard more bad things about USPS when people use them to ship live animals. They may be cheaper but that's not worth it to me. I have had people try to talk me into using USPS but have refused it. Some individuals feel you should use USPS to save them money.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess I just got lucky with my local post office. I'll be sure to stick to using FedEx. I'd much rather pay a little extra to ensure the geckos arrive safely :)

Same here. Even though my postal service here is great and they all know who Golden Gate Geckos is, I just can't count on other destinations. The health and safety of my geckos, as well as those I receive, is more important.

I agree, decisions should be based on the health and safety of the animals you care for. It sucks turning down a customer and their request but there are times you have to do it. There are times to compromise and times to stand your ground. USPS will work for my letters but not for my geckos.

I would never use USPS or buy from someone who ships that way. I know that I do not get overnight delivery here. They'll charge you for it, but it's two days anyways. Too many things get lost in the mail. I've received items months after they were shipped. It's too risky.
