UTH alternative?

So I currently have an UTH for my tank. I was wondering if there is a safe alternative?

Almost a year ago, I was using a zoomed heating pad for a snake in our (my boyfriend and I) bedroom. While we were in our living room, the heater caused a fire which made part of our house unlivable for a couple months. No animals were harmed, luckily.

My boyfriend and his family are VERY wary about me using a pad for my geckos. It is causing a lot of tension and I want to make things better, whether it is a different heating method or a super thorough explanation to make them feel safe?

The only other things that would be suitable for under heat would be heat tape or heat cable. I've heard of someone who had a fire due to heat tape. I'm honestly just as scared of fires as my boyfriend and I had one due to a faulty light bulb. Nothing will be 100% guaranteed. Replace things every so often. Peeling the heat pads off multiple times may loosen the hardware inside. I use the Flukers heat pad that isn't sticky, and so far has worked great, stays a consistent temp. I would also suggest getting a thermometer to keep your pad from overheating and causing another disaster. Happy to hear everyone was okay!!

I had a thermostat. And the pad had been running for a month. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to find a way to make them better about a heating pad.

My advice. Make sure the tank is raised for ventilation. Make sure you have the appropriate size uth. I personally have been using one about 7"×5" from zoomed for over two years. Just recently peeled it off and moved it. Still working great.

The entire bottom of the tank is exposed. It's supported by a steel stand with support bars across the center.
