so i read that you have to know the temperature of the bottom of the tank.
how do i find it out?
do i take a stick on aquarium thermometer and put it on the bottom??

Use a digital thermometer with a probe, they work well

you can get the probe thermometors either online at pretty much any reptile supply store or at a petstore. I have a temp gun that works fantastically, i can check the temps of my warm side, cool side etc with just a point and shoot lol. i got that at an auto parts store (like autozone or advanced auto) apparantly mechanics use them for cars. it was about $20.

I just got a digital thermometer and thermostat and uth from www.reptilesupply.com and the thermometer was like $7 or $8

I use a IR temp gun. I love it. You just point it at whatever you want to test and press a button and it gives you the temp. You can find them on ebay for around $25 Its just easier and cost effective so i dont have to buy a thermometer for each tank. I do use a probe and thermostat on my rack.

i got a temp probe and i think im going to look into the temp gun cuz it would be pretty nice.
