Hey guys,
I've been trying to search some old posts about UTH but I don't think I found my answer. When I first got my leo, I was sold a heat lamp with white light but now after reading all the information here I want to switch it to a UTH. I went looking and I found two brands of UTH. Which is better - Zoo Med's or Exo Terra. I have found Exo Terra everywhere but this one little shop swears on Zoo Med's. Also, should I get the size that is directed on the package or should I get something a little smaller so that its not so hot (since I can't change the temp without the rheostat and in the summer it gets pretty humid) and just use my heat lamp to up the temp if need? I have a 20 gal so the petstore said Exo Terra 10x12". Oh and I have repti carpet for the substrate.

Thanks.

I personally am more comfortable with the Zoo-med since the exoterra to me just looks like a piece of flexwatt that's been wired, and I'm nervous about flexxwatt. The zoomed looks a bit more enclosed. I think the 10-20 gallon zoo med size should be fine for a 20 gallon but, especially if you have repti-carpet you will either need to use the rheostat and keep adjusting it to keep the temps from getting too high, or get an thermostat.

Hi,
I don't know if there is a big difference between those brands. I personally use the ExoTerra DesertWave pads, but I heard from some ppl they had issues with it of getting to hot. Well, I have to say I would not recommend to buy any UTH without a thermostat.
I have 3 terrariums in use, a 20 long and two 40 long. The 20 long uses a medium pad, the other two the large one. You should make sure that it does not cover more than half of your tank. I think the 10x12 is fine for a 20 gal, but other's will confirm or give you better advice.
