UTH Problems?

Okay, so I have had my Zoo-Med heating pad plugged in and running for about 4 hours. I started out without my Zoo-Med rheostat, but later added it. I soon realized my rheostat had my temp pegged at 84.5, that's it. So I recently un-plugged it. Right now, It is at 85. Should I just let it run and see what the temp is in the morning? I am worried I paid all this money for something that doesn't work. Please Help!

I have kinda figured it out myself. I took out the 2nd layer of paper towel, that made a HUGE difference! I added the Rheostat back and i am getting it stabelized as we speak at 93. Sorry for the pointless-ness :( I feel soooo stupid! sorry :(

My UTH dropped from the low 90's to the low 80's the other day too. In a few days it'll probably be up in the 100's. They have no consistency.

I use ZooMed UTH's and all mine stay very consitant. I use them with no rheostat. On my big two (30-40 gallon size) I have a thin towel under my repticarpet to get my temps down to where they should be. I had one that went bad not too long ago. But I think it was my fault I peeled of another tank and put it on a new tank and 3 days later it was bad, no heat, and a melted hole where cord goes into it. This is just my experience not saying they're all the same.

is the temperature in your place changing? I notice my temps stay consistent (using a sunbeam heating pad) when the temperature in my apartment stays the same, on cold days i'll loose a couple degrees it seems. I bought a dimmer for mine but for some reason when i use it after a while it's as though it lost it's power or something and the light on my heating pad will be turned off and i'll find the temp down in the 80s, i got rid of the dimmer and just use the lowing setting on my heating pad, seems to stay around 32-33 (89-91F) degrees :)
