Hi, Ok so after doing my research I have found it is ok to use a UVB bulb for my adult leopard gecko. So here's my question,I was reading that the coil UVB bulbs are not good for the Leo's. Is this true. I have also read if I keep the bulb far enough away from my leo she will be fine. Can someone help shine light on my confusing.

This is what I have: 26W 10.0 UVB Dessert terrarium lamp from Exo Terra the bulb is the spiral type. The light sits exactly 18 inches above my leo. And she has a lot of places to take shade if she needs too.

So someone please help me. Thank you so much.

I have read that spiral type bulbs can hurt a reptile's eyes. Supposedly, even diurnal reptiles try to avoid the light that comes from the spirals. It is better to go with the tube type if you are going to use one. I would also suggest going with a 5% rather than a 10% bulb. As long as your leo has plenty of dark hides it will be okay to try a UVB tube.

I've never used a flourescent light, so I'm not an expert. I think the spiral puts off more intense light, which is why it might hurt a reptile's eyes. Also, spirals are higher watts than tubes.
