Very Disappointed

Once again my hopes of getting a leopard gecko have been "crushed", so to speak. I will not give out certain details, but basically the leo I thought I would receive at a show (I had reserved her) was still being advertised as available by the breeder. Basically what it ended up boiling down to was that my reservation apparently meant nothing, and so now here I am once again without a leo.

I just wish I could find a reliable breeder in my area who wouldn't mind holding a leo until January, and who would /keep/ their promises.

Oh well, I still have the show in January to attend, and hopefully there will be some nice breeders and a lot of leopard geckos there.

I'm //this// close to just ordering from a breeder in a neighboring state when the weather clears up.

Still, this is sooooo frustrating.

Thats really is mean of that breeder to do that to you. I bet any breeder in this forum would work with you to find a way to get your gecko. Well I am 100% positive ,but one of these days my head is just going to explode if I am wrong lmao

I'm sorry that happened, however, this is a business to many breeders. If you didn't put down a payment, or if you didn't have the gecko paid for, he can still have it advertised. I know many breeders won't hold a gecko unless it's paid for partially or fully....so maybe when you do find one, you can pay for it when you find it...

Or maybe this is your answer to whether or not you should get a AFT vs a Leo

Most breeders require a 20-25% deposit to hold a gecko. A deposit lets the seller know that you are serious about buying it, next time try offering a deposit and see what the seller says. I know it's disappointing when someone says that they'll save something for you and then they don't but coming from the other end of things, most breeders get a lot of emails and calls from people who really want a gecko and then never send payment. That's why it's best to make a deposit and get a receipt.

Oh yes, I understand this. The thing is I did offer to pay for it fully. The breeder simply said that the payment wasn't needed. That is part of the reason why I am so disappointed. I had really put my trust into this breeder, you know?

Maybe I should have been a little more questioning over the breeder when they did not accept the payment. At the same time I had never really dealed with reserving/holding a gecko, so I did not know whether this was normal or not. Then again there were other things that should have warned me, so it was partially my fault as well.

@ malt_geckos: It very could be the answer, unfortunately that breeder was the one who had AFTs who I was interested in. Also, the more and more I read about leos the more I begin to love them. AFTs are indeed amazing and special in their own ways, but I have no experience with them.

I've already begun searching for other breeders within my area. The weather here has been unpredictable lately, so I'll probably just go with my original plan to pick up a gecko at a show I am attending in January.

Well, if the seller didn't want a deposit and told you that he/she would hold the gecko for you, and then sold it, I wouldn't buy from that person. That's not a trust-worthy thing to do and the seller obviously doesn't care about the buyers personal trust.

The responsible thing to do as a seller is require a deposit to hold any animals. That will keep from having any buyers feelings violated, and help keep a good reputation through-out the reptile community.

Hannah, I would be happy to hold a gecko for you until January with a 25% deposit (GF members get discounts!) If I don't have anything you are interested in, I can recommend a breeder in your area that might be willing to hold a gecko for you.
