I bought Viktor when he was no bigger than a quarter, I put in so much time & care into him, & all of my other fish. I watched him for 3 years grow to be bigger than my spread out hand.

He died last night, from Velvet disease. It started at 2pm, then I thought it was just cloudy eye. But by 5pm I realized it was velvet from the shiny golden look to his scales. He died at 11:30pm, yesterday (friday, feb. 18, 2011).

Some of you may think its a little much to mourn over a fish, but he was my pet, my Viktor, out of the 50-60 fish that I have, only 2 have names, he was one of them. I also had him for 3 years, raised him from a little baby. He was a beautiful black veil angel fish & would have made some beautiful babies. Just a week from now I was planning on getting him a bigger tank & a mate.

Being to big to flush & I also refused to flush even if he wasn't too big, I buried him outside in the middle of our round flower garden that has yellow & pink tulips that bloom every year, with a big pretty rock right over him.

Now I plan to get my 125 gallon tank up & running & I plan to get 5 or 6 black veileds in honor of Viktor, he was my first one though.

When I wake up every morning first thing I would do is check my tank, Viktor's being the first & would feed everyone. He was always ready at the glass waiting for me (probably not really since he was a fish, but I'd like to think so). So now every morning I walk to his tank, that only has Johann, my plecostomus, in it & just have that sinking feeling. Never thought I would miss a fish this much, but he was my fish.

He was only 3 years old, he still had 12 years to go, & lots of babies to make.
I miss him... :disappointed:

For size comparison, he still wasn't full grown too...

I'm so sorry:( Its definitely hard losing any pet, especially when they have a personality. I totally believe that he would come to the glass to greet you...mine do too;) They know who feeds them:) Again, I'm sorry:(

He was a cichlid... so he definitely was really doing what you thought he was doing.

I know angels are cichlids, we have african cichlids too & they act sort-of like that, but not near as much. Of course Im not nearly as attached to them.
