Viper Geckos?

Hey everyone, I'm looking into getting a few little viper geckos. I've heard that they do not take up a lot of space. I have the money and time to take care of them. I have some questions.

1. If I bought 1 male and two female adults could I house them together?
2. Could a trio be housed in a 5.5 gallon tank?
3. How do you incubate viper gecko eggs?
4. Can they be handled?

Sorry for the long post. Help needed.:main_yes:

Viper Geckos are very simple to take care of. The only thing is, they breed like crazy and basically keep laying and laying and laying. If you housed the trio together you would most definately get eggs which could stress the females out. I would say the smallest tank for a trio would be atleast a 10gal, that would ensure they have more space and don't bother each other as much.

Incubating viper eggs is fairly simple. Place them in sand and put them into your female Leopard Gecko incubator (around 80-82*).

Yes, they can be handled but like any reptile, do it with moderation.

Thanks alot!!! About incubating should the sand be dry or moist. If I don't get a trio would a 1.1 be good in a 5.5 gallon tank or should the female and the male be seperate? If so I will get a ten gallon tank.

They don't need alot of humidity when incubating so we always used dry sand. A 1.1 would probably be fine in a 5.5gal. What I would do if I got the 1.2 would rotate the females in with the male, that way, if one is laying the other can be taking a break.

Thanks! Can you tell if the females are ovulating like you can with leopard geckos or do you just check daily for eggs. One more question; Do viper geckos need a moist hide. If so what substrate to I use?

They pretty much just breed whenever so we really never had to check and see if they were ovulating. We put them on sand and then sprayed one side of the tank and the female would lay her eggs in the sand. You have to check pretty often because sometimes you can't tell if they lay. The eggs are like peas.

When they lay eggs do the females dig down a bit and lay or do they lay on the top of the moist sand? Sorry for all of these questions; I'm new to viper geckos. Also do you know where I could get some of these cute lil' guys?

They dig a little bit and lay but they're not like on the bottom of the tank or anything. You can check on kingsnake.com and geckosunlimited.com. I haven't see anyone that had them for sale here for quite a while.

Viper are VERY VERY tough to find around this time. JMG DOES have some available for sale. They are all unsexable though. They are around $25 each, I believe.

Thanks guys! Hey Thorsten what substrate do you keep your vipers on. It would be cool if you had any pictures of your setup. And do you candle viper gecko eggs like you candle leopard gecko eggs to see if fertile?

First of all, that substrate sucks...... its calci sand an I don´t use it anymore. Didn´t new about the problems it´s causing them.
Than I had the groupe in a 24"*16" tube in my Rack for the quarantine.
At the moment they are livin in a terrarium that is 24"*16"*16" with stoney backwall.
I will make you pictures tomorrow.
I´ve seen a few pics that should be their natural habitat and I would say take 5 kg sand with 1 kg clay powder and you should have a nice mix(I have a mix of sand and kokofibers right now cause I´m still waiting on the clay that should come next week).
