Has anyone used these? I want to save some space by moving my geckos to something like this. I considered a rack system but want to be able to show off/ view my geckos. They also have dividers so i can divide one tank into 2, etc. I can still use my UTH and a bulb from the top. My apartment is slowly being overrun with tanks so i want to organize everything better, etc.

let me know? thanks!!

Check this out. It's a pretty good description of what to expect with these cages.

http://www.alexhuereptiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11906

I would be concerned that crickets may be able to climb the corners and possibly sneek out the rather large holes in the top grate or even the gap in the sliding doors?? Anyone have experience with crickets in these cages?

Stacking them may create a heat build-up in the top cage or stale air in the botton cages. I'm not sure how much ventilation happens in the corners. At least they planned for stacking the units and added such ventilation!:main_thumbsup:

I use these for my breeders and I like them very much. I have them in a fairly warm room so the UTH is fine. There are plastic struts on the bottom that limit the width of the UTH. I use ultratherm 6 x 23". 6 inches is the max width you can use. I would not recommend using a bulb as it has to hang down in to the tank and I can't imagine that the geckos would be safe from burns. It may be hard to keep them heated properly if your house is cold.

I have not had problems with adult crickets escaping, but tiny ones probably could.

I'm concerned about heating the cages. It is always warm in my place ( so much that my boyfriend complains...but i like it!..he doesnt live here, i do!)
what kind of light fixture could i use for it?

Also, i don't really like to deal with crickets often and my gex are happy with mealies/supers. I only feed them once in a while, my babies more often but i'll have the divider to block the gap.

plus they sell nifty little cage locks with it.

like i said, im just concerned about heating from the top.

Nightseer...I would think that an UTH and a heat rock should be ok for that. Also if you want light but dont want a light hanging down Ive found the Slimline UVB lighting hood to be really nice.

If your UTH is the same size and watts you can put up to 500 - 1000 watts per thermostat (depends on the brand)

You could get light rope and rig it up behind the tank to get some light in or possible they way they look lay it on each top.

Or maybe a strip light and put it on the wall behind the tanks. Like a 4' and hand it tall ways on the wall then the tanks in front.

oh and this may sound silly but I used red xmas light behind some of my tanks to see them at night and they looked pretty cool.

I want my adults back in tanks, Im not liking it now that the adults are in racks.

Some kind of narrow light/heat fixture would probably fit on top. There is a recessed area - check it out in the thread on Alex's forum. I had some lights that I used to grow seedlings that were basically just short flourescent bulbs with a very small fixture. I think they were designed so you just threw the whole thing away when they burned out. They would fit. Having all glass walls lets in lots of light - I've never needed any extra light to see them well. I have another cage that has 3 solid walls that I did get a light for. The geckos hated it and usually hide when the light is on.

Vision cages usually has them at shows they vend at. In Anaheim they had seconds (the metal grate had been siliconed in - not visible at all when stacked) for $60! :)

I think there have been other threads about this in the past. Some people have said that the cage sags and doesn't stack that well. I have only one. The center does sag and I don't have them stacking. As I mentioned in the other thread (wherever it is) you can also check out www.glasscages.com and look at their stackable units. I have quite a number, though I don't stack them. The price is very good especially if you get them at one of their many delivery drops.
