Do leos really need running water or is water in a dish fine? I heard if you mist your cage they will drink the water off the plants?

Water in a dish is fine. Sometimes they'll lick the water droplets from their humid hide too.

Perhaps you were reading about the importance of misting for hatchling?

Ditto to what gothra said

No need for moving water--true chameleons are the only lizards i'm aware of that require dew/dripping water. They will lap up droplets off the sides of their enclosure--I do this for hatchlings/little ones. I use solo 1 1/2 oz. portion cups for my geckos water dishes--they're cheap, easy to clean, and if the gecko makes a mess of it, I just replace it. Otherwise, I replace the dishes after about a month, just to be safe. Stagnant water can harbor some nasty little buggers, so I rinse out each dish, and then thoroughly wipe them with a single sheet of T.P. then I rinse, and flick them dry, and then refill with fresh distilled water.

Put water dish. Don't count too much on the droplets, and if you want to do that, make sure to have a water dish in there as well, so they can drink when they want.
