I have had 3 females 'spayed', but only when they were egg-bound and their lives were at risk. It is an expensive procedure, and 2 out of the 3 pulled out all their sutures during their first shed after the surgery... one passed away as she eviscerated herself in the process. I also had a male that required both of his hemipenes surgically removed due to prolapse issues. These are actual surgical procedures which require anesthesia, and certainly not worth the risk or the money if it is being done for 'birth-control' purposes. The best way to prevent reproduction is to keep males and females separate.
