Raising Wax Worms

I raised them for awhile....was fun but there is some tricks that I never mastered.....Get wax worms....Set up in ? ... I used a 10 gal aquarium. Screen top. Used bran for the bedding material. Buy a cheap small container of honey. Make a tacky mix of some with bran. Spread some of the tacky
mix around on the top. Cut up some strips of WAX paper......put it on the top also. The adult wax worms will go into a cocoon stage ( some will attach to places) and some will be in the tank and look as if they are turning brown.....(any black ones are dead......
.brownish leave alone.(cocoons too, or whatever?).....They will turn into moths(winged kind that can fly, and is the screen top reason)....Moths will mate and female will lay eggs in/ on wax paper or probable other places too.
I never saw the eggs but the mini worms will be seen as piles of grain movement. To see them better, spoon a pile onto a paper plate.....you will then jump with joy and start a thread for all of us to see......You may have some started before I finish typing this......LOL*****
Here was my biggest problem*****I would raise them to a tiny/little size but before I could get them like suppliers they woud go into the cocoon stage on me.......I could have fed small ones but I kept trying to figure it out...but kept coming up with the same problem.....I feel it is all on having a COOL enough temperature to get size on them. About 50 to 60 degrees. ....Good luck..........Give it a try...it is rewarding just to see the little worms that you helped accomplish.........take carte. HJ

I feed wax worms every day side by side with meal worms. Only believe your chart if you believe the publishings that they will not eat when they reach adult size.....(who can tell what that is).....This is false. I feed my wax worms starting from the time I receive them. They come out of the wood shavings and they go on my grain of choice, which is Layer Hen Crumbles, Orange peels, carrots, and corn husks/cobs ...................they don't die off as fast but do go into the cocoon stage which baby geckos will eat forcefully...........take care.
