Web-based Applications

I'm constantly looking for projects I can do to build my knowledge of PHP/MySQL web development. I've been thinking... and after surfing many of the breeder websites here, I thought how tedious it could get to update availability pages--espcially if you have a lot of available geckos.

Basically, I'm trying to get a feel for how many people would use a web-based application meant to manage your availability as well as collections. I could most likely integrate a payment system into PayPal as well--I've done it on a small scale before.

If so, what kind of features would you like? Customer area where certain features are only available to people who have registered or even people who have purchased from you in the past? Mailing list management?

Just let me know; I think it would be something that I'd enjoy working on.

Nice ideas! Maybe ID, gender, price, pair that produced it, and a feature to do like 10% off all would be interesting.. Just thinking of stuff.

Nice, nice. I would definitely make the colors and whatnot customizable by CSS to fit virtually any website.

I wrote a php script like this already and have it working on a few breeders websites. If you are interested, I can give you a link to view a demo and maybe we can trade some ideas on it. I was going to release it as a website where breeders could manage their availability and have the listing show on their personal websites, but I wanted to finishing working out some of the bugs.

If anyone thinks it might be a good project, I will go ahead and get a free website going like that. If you (C14H22N2O) want to take a look, please just PM me.

Awesome, I'd love to take a look. I was talking about a script that could be installed on a user's own webserver as opposed to something managed on another server--I think your's is like the latter. But nevertheless, I'd love to take a look at it!

Sounds a lot like the HerpDesign Admin Panel I created a while back (and currently used on a number of sites).

I'm also working on a new AJAX-ified admin panel with fixed monthly rates... it'll be cheaper than the usual design fees. The first one was pretty ugly so I'm going through a pretty big update. The idea is that you'll log on to my site (geckoaddict.com) in order to update your site (which will be hosting on my VPS server). E-Mail me if you want to bounce ideas back and forth.

You really should make that! I would love to get something lke that. And add something that you can put your own deals in. Like % off, free shipping with a pair, ect ect....

Wooo, I've been real busy lately and my online classes just started! But, nevertheless, I want to start this project off right and am drawing up a skeleton/outline as to how some of the basic features will be displayed how they will interact with each other.

Shouldn't take too long to get that drawn up...

I'll be looking for everyone's input. ^_^
