Okay,

I am trying to take photos of my collection to upload to my website developer and I am pretty much a noobie photographer. Below are some pics of my collection. Lemme know what you guys/gals think. Please be honest. That means if they are bad pics please tell me why and what I could do to make them better. I am using a lightbox to reduce the flash but I still can't get pics of any albino strain eyes Anyways, I thank everyone in advance for your opinion.

I think they are great! To help have their eyes OPEN in the pictures, try not using flash, or placing a paper towel folded up over the flash to reduce the effect.

If you don't mind, I went ahead and did some post processing to them in GIMP.
I sharpened, added contrast (to really pop the colors), and I attempted to adjust the color balance and brighten them a touch.

Is it ok if I post what I did to them? If you don't want me messing with them, I'll delete them immediately.

Do you have white poster board?

They're not bad at all.

Oh, I don't have poster board. I'm using a light box made of white nylon. I have some different backrounds but the darker colors show every piece of dust! Look at the first pic of that Mack Snow Enigma. I keep staring at that piece of thread

I would get some poster board at a store and place it in your photo box and place the box either directly under a lamp, or find a window and place it under the sun coming in.

Are these your pictures of your own geckos, or are you placing these geckos for sale on a website? Or are they going on a website where you will be placing geckos for sale?


My monitor is about as color calibrated as a monitor can get, and when tested with calibration software, it's only off very, very little, and it's not really noticeable by the human eye.

I re-cropped this one and took some empty space off of the left. To me, it gives the gecko more of a direction.

If you shot these in RAW, I'd suggest attempting a bit of a white balance correction. I don't know what you are going for, though.
There's only two I'd considering retaking, and those would be the SSBell (there is a slight blur in her face), and the RAPTOR male (he's a tad under-exposed).

There. Please don't think I'm a snot. Your pictures are good. I'm just a photographer (not professional, by any means, though), and I post process SOOOO many pictures, and take so many pictures, that I'm picky as hell when it comes to exposure and composition.


I don't know if what I did looks ok to you, though.

Rebecca they look sooooooo good! Will you do the rest of them for me? I'll give you a free gecko! I need help bad..... I have a deadline to meet for the developer. These are pics of my breeder's and a few hatchlings that I will sell later (the het Nova's) . I want to get them done this week. I can retake pics all night if you want. Oh, heck. How can I pass THAT up???

If you can give me tomorrow, I can get the pictures processed for you in GIMP (which is what I have on my regular desktop), and then I can process them in Photoshop Elements and use my Nik Color Efex filter program on them to bring out just the gecko and darken the sides, if you'd like.
It's like this (I don't have any pictures of my geckos where I used this filter on them), see in the pine cone how the very tip is lighter than the rest, so that the tip really stands out in the picture? I can center the gecko like that and make the sides darker. It's kind of a vignetting effect, but a lot...cleaner looking, I think.

I can also dodge and burn eyes (I'll show you what I mean on the Bell Enigma where the light caught his/her eye, I can darken it so that the gecko doesn't have "bulb eye".

If you're serious about the gecko, I can PM you my info.

Yeah I'm serious about the gecko! I have some nice SS, SHTCT, Raptors, 2 Crested Geckos and a Jungle Mack Snow that I would be willing to part with. They all will be cool looking. I can ship it this week too if we can finish by Wednesday. Lemme know....

Thanks Everyone! The website is almost complete. I am just submitting the store items to the developer this week and then we will be ready to rock! I appreciate everyone's positive feedback on this post. It has given me strength to push forward. I love this community!
