Weight Concern

I bought this female from the petstore after she had been there for almost a year. They were calling her a he and jumbo which she is in fact a she and just a standard Gecko. My concern is her weight. She is 8" long and weighs 56 grams. They said they got her at this size so I know she must be over a year old. I am curious to know what a good weight for an adult female is. She is about the same weight as my juveniles are and they will be a year in February. Also is there anyway to know her age? The pet store didn't. i am guessing 1-2 years but don't know if I am even coming close.

She looks very good and well proportioned! :main_yes: That's just the weight she should have, without being a giant or obese. Remember, 50g is a good weight for starting to become gravid. Yours is even better than that. Adult females can go up to 70-90 grams.

About the age, you can just guess. 2 years seems about right, since she was at the petstore for about a year and they got her big, as an adult. Older geckos sometimes look a bit -- eh, wrinkly under the chin :main_laugh: and around the belly, like old people ;) This one here looks like she's at the blossom of her life :) I read that their fourth year is their peak of breeding. Apart from that, with super good care, she can get 15-20 years old, so she's still YOUNG :D Snow Tremper or Tremper Albino?

She's a VERY nice gecko; never seen that in my local petstore. They just have thin hatchlings.

Thanks Chrissy,

She looks good to me, Guess I was comparing her to my other female that is about 4 years and at 90 grams. I thought she was a bell but I guess the only way to really find out would to be to breed her to a male and see what hatches. She looks like a bell to me but I guess she could be a Tremper.

Just look in the eyes; if they're more reddish, it's most likely a Bell. Wasn't clear from your photo. I wouldn't test breed just to find out which albino she is, because if you guessed wrong, you'd have mutts already ;) Or breed to a plain Snow, then it won't matter what she is. She's gorgeous! In 2 years, she'll probably be 90g, too :main_laugh:

I do have an eye shot I just didn't post it but here it is. I am guessing that she could be a tremper albino. She has an eye like a tremper albino

Yes, the eyes are pink, so you're going to have to look for a Bell boy :main_thumbsup:
