Most shipping companies charge by the box dimensions now not weight in the case of leopard geckos. To ship a single hatchling you could use a 7x7x6 insulated box.

UPS charges by 'dimensional weight', or what a package's size should weigh on average. Even if a box only weighs 1 lb. it's the size of the box that matters. UPS calculates their dimensional weight this way:

W x L x H (cubic size) divided by 194, rounded up to the higher pound. A box that is 7 x 7 x 6 has a cubic size of 294, divided by 194 = 1.15, or a dimensional weight of 2 lbs.

If you have the UPS guy come over to pick up the package, they guesstimate. Like most of the time, they will just say it weighs one pound because that's the minimum weight for a box.
