One of my leos is a red eyed enigma. He is one of the most timid and friendly leos I have ever had. But his eating habits are throwing me off and im wondering if anyone else has encountered this?
He has never been a strong hunter, infact has been hand fed since I got him. I tried to get him off that, but no luck, he has never caught a cricket on his own. He is not as fast as my other leos, and I thought maybe he was blind. But he appears to know when I am looking in the tub and seems normal when I hold him.
The only way I can get him to eat is to hold a cricket in tongs by the head (he strikes from behind, but cricket feelers turn him off...) and he will only strike if the tongs are flat on in front of him which means he always gets the tongs in his mouth too. I just hold onto him once he strikes and eventually he lets the tongs go and hopefully keeps the cricket. Sometimes he strikes and misses and then he wont try again. Sometimes he just is not interested in eating at all. I know that all geckos are different, but he was hatched around the same time as others I have and he is quite a bit smaller (especially tail) than the others.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Or have tips to break hand feeding. He seems healthy and normal for the most part...I just want to keep him that way.
