Howdy all,

My Tremper enigma sunglow has been laying some very odd eggs. The first two were obviously infertile, so I pitched them. She laid them in the wet hide, which has paper towel in it. The next one (she only laid one) was laid on the slate in her inclosure and was clearly fertile (nice bullseye) but the egg seemed flimsy. I could very clearly see the bullseye with my naked eye. It firmed up, but got moldy quickly and still is moldy, but I'm incubating it just in case. ( I have it in its own deli cup in the incubator). She laid again today, again on the slate, and this egg is also flimsy, just like the last one. I dust all her food (without D3 mostly, but every few days with D3) and she has a dish of calcium in the tank at all times. This is her first year breeding, as well. Is she just not cut out to be a mom? Or does this happen sometimes with first year breeders. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Pictures of the eggs may help. Also if the eggs were just layed the tent to be pretty soft.

Do you provide a lay box for her?

Yes..I did provide a lay box. I actually have two in there. The first one has the hole in the top, and I thought maybe she'd be more likely to go in one with a hole on the side, but no such luck. These eggs are definitely not normal...my other female has been laying normal eggs all summer. The first egg solidified a bit, but not like a normal egg. It also seemed to be oozing some fluid, even though there was no crack or anything. We'll see what happens with the one that was laid today. This is also her second single egg. I can clearly see another in her, but I'm just not sure what's going on.

I have a raptor female who has laid small, infertile eggs for the past 2 seasons after being paired with 2 different proven males. Some geckos do take awhile to lay eggs that are both fertile and viable and some don't seem to be able to do it. I give these geckos 2 seasons to see if they can do it. This raptor is going to be for sale (as a pet only) at the next reptile show. I have another, a tremper snow stripe, who re-absorbed all her eggs this season. She'll get to try again next season.
