Weird gecko (no problems, just observations)

So, I wake up this morning and look at the gecko tank (which is right across from my bed), and the gecko's sitting up on his little rock pile and staring back at me.
He sits there for a while, so I go make breakfast, thinking maybe he was on his way to the water dish and I startled him.
I come back, he's in the same place, but staring out at the wall.
Hunting?
I drop some mealies in.
He stalks the first one a bit and eats it, snaps up the second after looking at it for a bit.
He's not acting like he does when he's really hungry and waiting for food (watching my hand as it moves, grabbing the worms as soon as he sees them) so I figure I'll wait on the rest until this evening.
He sees there's nothing more to eat, so he turns around like always.
He's halfway between the rock pile and two hides, and he's just staring at the tiny space between the two hides. Or maybe staring into one of the hides. His tail does a bit of a snake-wave and he walks reeeeeally slowly towards the hide.
And then he's in, and he reaaaally slowly turns around ... then plops down on the warm spot and stares out to sightsee as if nothing's amiss.

He's like those dogs that bark and growl at the wall. :tongue3:

I thought that might be the case when he was staring at the wall (it's pretty dark out today), but he was waving his tail at his humid hide. Maybe he caught a glimpse of his reflection behind it.

I've twice had him "puff up" at me, both times because I accidentally poked at him while he was in his hide and I was messing with stuff in his cage. :tongue3: He went all snake-y on me ... it's sort of hypnotic if you stare at the tail long enough.

they do the 'snake wag', for lack of a better term, usually when they're scared. they con a predator into grabbing ahold of their tail so they can drop it and get away. gradually lay your hand in with him and let him sniff/lick it and crawl over it so he gets used to you messing around in his tank. also pick him up from the front. he'll get scared if you sneak up behind him and grab him. eventually he should get used to you and realize you're not a threat.

my super hypo is the most social gecko I've owned. she'll crawl all over my hand and pretty much get in my way if I'm doing something in her tank, haha. she's always curious as to what I'm doing.

If this is addressed at me, yeah, I know. I've had him two years, and he's a sweetie, he just doesn't appreciate being jabbed in the head with my thumb when he's sleeping. Poor critter! I hadn't realized he was sitting so close.

And as for my first post, I was nowhere near him at the time, which was what made it funny.
