what are leos natural habitat like?

what would be more realistic sand, ecoearth, carpet, or slate? i love the looke of sand but im gonna convert my 55g from fish to loes and im gonna build a enclousre over top of the tank to house males, and a hatchery. I seen some have the eco earth and green plants, and others with a more desert look. I know its all about preference but I just would like to know what you would see in the wild and decide then lol

In the wild they live on a mixture of hard, dry, compact clay/sand mix with lots of large flat rocks. They rarely encounter loose sand and prefer to live in rock-type caves
