Thanks for looking!

Sorry for the pictures, they were kind of fidgeting around.

Here is the male:

Thank you so much.

With them both being $59 which would be the better buy?

I know it is really MY decision, but honestly... I like both! But from reading and being told by someone on here... two in a 20gal long is a bad idea.

You can keep 2 together but it is not normally a good idea. If you don't want eggs and undo stress on the female it's not good to keep them with a male. 2 Males together will more than likely fight and possibly kill each other. Multiple females have a better chance of being together but that can get ugly too.

So generally it is not best to keep more than one in a tank.

And that is where I get confused in the first place.

All these books, articles and blog and what not.. all say that you can have 3-4 LP's in a 20g long.

Then I come on here, and I get told it is not a good idea at all. haha

I am fine with just one to start out with though.

Which of these two are more... I don't know... "pure" for their morph? I guess, which one is more expansive based on these crappy pictures I took? lol

If you don't know the genetic background of the geckos neither is more or less pure. Neither is worth more than the other. The value of any gecko is really based on personal preference if they will not be used as breeders (and unknown genetics means they should never be bred). Personally, I like the contrast and color of the tangerine more than the SHT :)

I see. And that is a great point about not breeding when their background is unknown.

I was liking the males colors as well.

I am going to visit a few places this weekend to see if there are any others here locally that I like before I finally commit to buy this one.

Here are some more pictures of some different ones I saw tonight.
What are they? The white one is pretty whitish/yellowish with yellow/light orange blotches on its back and a solid white tail.

These other ones also caught my eye.

I agree - top one looks like A Murphy's patternless. It will lose the patterning and become a more solid yellow as it ages. The other two look like they'll be SHTs. If they are the black markings will fade and they'll be a solid orange color like the one in your first pictures without the spots when mature.

Thank you guys and gals for the help identifying them!

Interesting about those two last ones... I had no idea that they can change coloration so drastically! Amazing.

Ohh and those black stripes are VERY black.. lol I liked the way they look.

Would it be better to buy a younger one over the ones in my first post?

The ones in your second set of photos look pretty young. IMO it's a bit safer to buy an older gecko as you know it has been eating well for a bit and growing as long as it has a decently chunky tail. Those in your first set of photos look nice and healthy and still relatively young.

I wouldnt buy the geckos from the first pictures at all.
They arent being taken care of properly. Give your money to a responsible gecko person.

Thank you everyone for the fantastic feedback and help!

How so? I know there is sand and no under tank heater... but how can you tell they are in poor conditions?

I know the shop owners and fish/reptile people very well. I know they strive to do the best for their animals.

Online geckos are super expensive. And then I have to pay shipping... not going to happen. Least not for my first buy.

Because there is sand, no UTH, no calcium dish, no humid hide, and theyre housing males with females that are old enough to breed.

Thats not really striving to do their best.
I have a reptile section I manage, mine its nothing like that.

If they are missing those things Katie's noticing they may be perfectly healthy but there's always a the risk that there could be digestion issues from no UTH, impaction issues from the sand, calcium deficiencies because they don't have access to the calcium they need while growing, and they could start laying eggs when you get them home if they're housed with a male - which would be very bad for them while still growing. All of these things could, at the least affect the longevity of your gecko, and at worst cost you a LOT in vet bills and heartache. Always best IMO to not take the risk and find some super healthy geckos that have been kept in proper conditions. You may get lucky and have no problem, you may not. Its up to you whether the savings are worth the risk.
