WHat caused the egg to leak?

I have started hatching my second round of eggs, so I check the incubator frequently.
Tonight, I checked a pretty large egg, that was due to hatch in the next week or so, I pick it up, it's leaking out one end.. GREAT, I think, I've lost another one, or onotherone is infertil ( I have mostly 1st yr breeders)...
I opened the egg, (out of morbid curiosity I guess)and there sits a perfectly formed baby with ALL of the egg yolk still intact, nothing looked at ALL like it was bad, OR ready to hatch......

SO, what caused this egg to leak, had the baby died and then it caused the breakdown of shell?.... Should I have left it? Don't they die ANYWAY if they aren't already and the shell is comprimised???

I'm sorry you lost a little one! It sounds like the baby may have 'pipped' the egg and then was not strong enough to hatch? Also, if you add too much moisture to the egg container shortly before hatching, the eggs can become turgid (swollen with water) and cause too much pressure inside. This can also drown the baby.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss

Not necessarily. I have heard stories of people pipping eggs to assist a baby out of the shell if the baby seems to be having problems. There was someone who pipped an egg and the baby was still covered in yolk, but also alive. Can't remember who it was, but he left the baby in the incubator as it was (with no shell) and it was healthy and moving around after a day or two.

Nothing is really black and white when it comes to gecko breeding, there are many shades of gray.

Thanks guys,

I'm not sure if iether scenario is right, as I haven't added ANY moisture to this egg box since I set it up, and have had a few hatch already, AND this little guy had a COMPLETELY FULL egg sac/yolk, still attached..... he didn't look deformed, but he wasn't moving, so I figure either he was dead which caused the inner membrane int he egg to start to break down, OR something else caused the egg to open and I wound up putting the final nail in his coffin, (so to speak) by opening the egg even further...:main_huh: :(

I think I read on here some one using superglue on an egg???:D

How did that turn out? and have you done it since/before?
