I was wondering what do you guys do when you go on vaction with your leo's or any reptiles. I don't really have anyone I can hand them to without worry lol. If anything I'd say my grandmom or aunt lol.
But yea, some people just don't know enough to handel them right. My aunt is cool but she has a lil boy who loves to hold the leos, and I am scared he may hurt/kill/detail them.

Yea, if I go away for like two -three days, I just dont worry about them. I put a big bowl of meal worms out and leave them. They do fine. If I was planning a trip for like a week, I would either have my boyfriend come over or get a house sitter/friend to come take care of them. My mom cant be trusted =P

I don't go on vacation. :p More for the frogs than the leos in my case, as they require daily attention. A few months ago I went up to Seattle for a long weekend with my girlfriend, and when I came back I found that our friend who was supposed to watch them for me hadn't come over the whole time, so they only had a tiny amount of filthy water, hadn't been misted, and were showing signs of severe heat stress. :bomb: Luckily they all pulled through, even my baby red eyed tree frogs, those guys are tougher than most people give them credit for. After we move I am planning on redoing my vivs with water features and automated misting so that I can go away for a few days with minimal worry, but until then no vacations for me.

On vacation we go for long walks on the beach, bask in the sunshine, read a book...

On a more serious note- if I am going to be gone longer than 3-5 days and can't take them with me, I would see if someone could come in and change the water and put some mealworms in the bowl every few days. I usually end up bringing them with me, though, in smaller plastic travel cages (and one for the roaches).

I usually have friends or family I can trust come in to take care of them. I break up food (worms) for each day before hand. Always go over everything a couple times with them in person before I leave. Leave detailed instructions and phone numbers just incase.

I feel your pain Tony. I'm scared to leave my leaf tails for more than a day or two.

I've left my leos for a week with no ill effects. I just make sure their mealworm containers and water bowls are good and full. However, this is ONLY for my adults and subadults. If I had babies less than two months old I would definitely have someone checking the house every other day.

Since you only have a pair of Leos and don't have anyone to come to your house check on them your best bet may be leaving them with a family member. If you're only gone for a week or so they'll be fine without food. All the gecko-sitter would have to do is give them water once or twice, no handling involved.

I worry more about electrical issues than hunger or thirst issues when we (rarely) go on vacation. We have a great friend that drives an hour each way (for good pay, lol) mostly to make sure that the power hasn't gone out, thermostats are functioning properly, etc.
