OKay so I know I have come across answers in the past, I used the search function and found problems but its hard to find solutions.
So my question is this..

~In the even of a power outage, what is the best method for maintaining temps until it kicks back on??

I have heard people walk or drive over intire incubators to a place with power to hook up.. if this isnt an option how well would heat packs and ice cubes really work?? It sounds like a disaster!!! Thunderstorms are in the forecast tomorrow afternoon so I am preparing for the worst.... to be safe

the best way is a generator. You can hook it up through the breaker box. You can find some for 500+. Its a investment but if you have alot of animals its well worth it.

If purchasing a generator is not an option:

If its just for the rack/cage.....a couple of hours will be fine as room temperature should not drop so much that it will cause troubles/harm for the leos.

If any longer, consider throwing heat packs in the rack/cage, depending on which types you get, they can range from 4 hours to 24+ hours. That should keep them warm for the time being.

Decisions, decisions......

I looked at generators online and can find one for about $300 - $370 depending on which one... that is still a lot of money..
I guess I could cover up the holes in the bottom of the incubator to sustain temps for a few hours until power comes back...
Do heat packs get hotter than 90 degrees??
I think they do and that is what worries me.

We had a long power outage this winter and I kept mine in front of the fireplace with a thermostat in it. I had to move it constantly, but it was better then loosing them.

I also have a Coleman propane heater that will keep a room warm during a power outage.
