What Exactly Are Enigma Behaviors?

I really love enigmas, and am considering getting one but as I have read through a few posts here I have seen stuff about enigma behaviors. My question is what are they exactly and how common is it??

Walking in circles, wobbly look when walking, head cocking to one side or the other, and lack of overall coordination seem to be the ones I’ve observed, or heard of.

From what I’ve read only about 10% show these sings, and most only show them when they are little.

When I first got into enigmas, almost all of the ones in my collection showed these signs, no very few do. It also doesn’t seem to be genetic. I’ve had enigmas that circle constantly, that have produced offspring that do not, and have breed a normal acting enigma, to a gecko that was born before the enigmas where ever around, and hatched offspring with horrible circling.

The enigmas sort of remind me of the spider ball.

To add to the above post... From what I understand MOST enigmas that DO show any "behavior" outgrow their strangeness in time.

My 3 seem to be all happy and normal except my bell/snow/enigma who explores constantly. :main_rolleyes: :D

I have to admit, from the start of the Enigmas I was a bit put off by the behaviors that mine displayed... But now with all of the out crossing the issues seem to be down so much to the point where a couple of more generations will knock it out totally... I have seen more than a few of Pauls enigmas and not one does anything funky... I have seen enigmas in other quality breeders collections that also do not have these weird behaviors...

If you are in the market for enigmas, you need to look into who you will be buying one from... Usually you will see these issues in enigmas that are sold for 20 bucks or under... LOL

Of the fifteen or so Enigmas I have only two show any signs of "Enigma behavior." I'm nearly certain that outcrossing will eliminate the problem in time. Any breeder worth his/her salt would disclose any odd behavior, but I've heard stress from being shipped can bring it on, so there is a slim chance that the breeder may not be aware of the problem.

I have two bell enigmas right now that did it a LOT when I first got them a few weeks ago, and the only pics I have of them they are doing this, but they are getting better know. I have them up for trade, but I am considering keeping them since it has stopped.

I would just like to add that I haven't found any reason to believe enigmas who do act this way are any less happy than another gecko. Our enigma displays the wobbles and weird head angles, but she is active, and always eats readily.

If I were to get an enigma I would be getting it from Chris Smith (Yellermelon), because I am getting a leo from him for my SS present. I'm just trying to decide which morph I want. But I will definatly keep Paul in mind for gecko #3 :D

I appreciate the vote of confidence ;)

Get an enigma that you like and fits into your breeding plans if you plan to breed it.

I dont think I will get into breeding yet, maybe in 3-4 years when I move out of my moms house and into my own. Right now I am just looking for pets! :laugh4:
