We had a GREAT hand training session yesterday. Mardu walked across my hand twice, (once using me as a support to climb on top of one of his hides), and at one point, stopped and relaxed while laying his belly across my finger. I think he was walking and realized, "Oooh. That's warm. I'll just stop here for a bit." and stayed that way for a few minutes ^^.

He also happily walked across my fiance's hand, putting his whole body on him. He also partially sat on his hand while licking up some calcium from his dish.

We've been trying to be considerate and not try to pick him up just yet, and have made everything voluntary. But I'm happy with the progress we've made in just a few days!

He also had another feeding last night and we cleaned out one of his hides he came with...it occurred to me that I have no idea how long it had been since his previous owners had cleaned it :/. I also thoroughly cleaned the reptile carpet he came with, so it's ready to go should we need to clean his current one.

It was a good gecko day!

Did a minor tank decor rearrange and tried a double decker hide sort of thing to see if Leto would be interested. He was...

We've had a lot of progress this week!

Due to wanting to reinforce the positive aspects of handling, we got Mardu to voluntarily climb up my fiance (Mardu LOVES him for some reason and almost instantly climbs up his arm), and we fed him his worms on the small table his cage is seated on. Then later on in the evening he seemed to be asking to come out again, and got to play around on our bed for a bit. He seemed to enjoy this and loves exploring, but was far less skittish than the first time he came out to play.

Hurray progress!

they are cute. thats mother and son :p.

Iv always kept my adult leos on sand. Iv got 21 and non have ever had a problem :). the only time I have ever taken sand out is when one female lost the end of her tail, was more hygienic.
They seemed to love digging so much, my females would frequently make a pile and sleep slumped over it like giant bean bag :p.
Iv removed the sand now, because my landlady wasnt impressed with sand getting everywhere and clogging the sinks lol.
I do still keep a tray of sand in each viv which they use as litter trays though. makes it so much easier to clean and less smelly :p

Drew up some plans and made some purchases for a custom tank build project. I did some poking around office supply and home depot type places to see if it would be possible to decrease the amount of work load for me. As it turned out, a melamine kitchen cabinet (minus front door) can be gotten in the dimensions I wanted for only slightly more money than it would cost me to buy one big sheet of melamine. So did that.

The plan:

-Cabinet is 36" wide x 24" deep, 15" height. I will be splitting this in to two side-by-side enclosures of 18" x 24". Probably make the middle divider removeable.
-Two glass front doors mounted on hinges
-heat cable taped to the bottom of slate tiles, which will be mounted on a false floor.
-partial screen top pending temperature tests on the heat cable. my apartment drops to mid 60's in winter and current glass tank my leo is in requires a CHE on top to bring the air temperature in to the correct range.

Looking forward to putting everything together over the holidays. And, since there will be two enclosures, Mr. Leto will naturally be getting a new neighbour. I want a RAPTOR or RADAR female. :main_yes:

I got my first leo on Saturday and it's been super fun to arrange his habitat. I purchased a reptile hammock to provide more 'floors' for him to explore but thus far he hasn't really ventured around it much. Understandably so.

What really surprised me was how friendly he was with me, climbing onto my hand and comfortably crawling up my arm and what not.

Congratulations, Drawberry! It takes a bit of time for leo to explore terrain they haven't seen before, like hammocks. Mine ignored his for about a month before venturing on to it.

Update on formerly mentioned terrarium build. Wow. I'm never doing that again. Diy-ing was a lot more work than I expected. I did finish up my project but was not satisfied with the structural integrity of the acrylic doors I put on. Too flimsy, not escape-proof enough. However, the diy terrarium was the perfect size to serve as a tank stand, so I am using it as that instead. It serves that purpose splendidly.

Leto got a brand new store bought 40 gallon behemoth today. lol 36" x 18". Just for him. I had thought about getting a second leo but I think I am at my max with Leto and the crestie and the garg right now. :nice:

Weighed and measured Leto today. :main_robin:

He is 11.5 inches and whopping 116.5 grams. Complete surprise to me. He was not bred for giant morph as far as I know.

Here he is this evening licking the freshly moistened paper towel of his moist hide.

I've been away for quite some time now, but I thought I would update everyone. Raka has been doing great! She was treated to a brand new 20L tank as a late Christmas present thanks to a certain large chain petstore's $1/gallon sale that recently ended. Of course, i spent much more than $20 when it was all said and done between picking up some new moss, another thermometer, a new carpet, and of course a lid. I also picked up some calcium sand to act as a bed for the tile that I'm planning to get this weekend. As long as the weather isn't too bad, I'll also pick up a sheet of foam and some other materials to begin building her a hide to go in her new home.
