I have had him for years, he is about 13 years old and he has always looked like that. So what do you think, could he be a Banana Blizzard or something else?

I don't think so. It's just too dark. A banana blizzard should be more yellow than that. I agree with the others that it doesn't look quite right. What is the setup like that you keep it in? Even a BB that looks alot like one is tough to tell, it has to be test bread and see what you get.

I've a feeling its a hyper melanistic. Have a friend who is working with those, he crossed them with extreme tangerines and out came them brown geckos too. LOL!

For more info, maybe you can refer to JMG's charcoal line project? Cheers :)

Whatever it is...it is awesome and definitely a hypo + hyper melanistic.

My best assumption would be that he's a dark Murphys Patternless. I think this may be for a few reasons, one, I have seen a few dark ones, not quite this dark, but pretty close, and two, because of his tail. When MPs were first hot on the market, they were inbred to the point where many of them had horribly kinked tails. If he is 13 years old, he very well could have some of that inbreeding in him. Anywho, he does look like he is having some difficultys shedding and he could use a little more weight, but for his age I'd say he looks pretty good :)

If he is 13 years old, he is almost definitely a Patternless, as that's what he looks like, and that's about the only real morph that was available at that time.

So he is just a dark patternless, I feed him twice a week with gut loaded crickets that have been dusted in calcium, maybe I should feed some pinkies to him. I also have a new hide box in there, so it stays really humid in there, so the shedding problem should go away. I am a bit surprised about the inbreeding part, I would love to know more about that. Thanks guys.

JMO, he looks a little on the thin side, I would start feeding him 3-4 times a week. You can feed him a pinky too, but just remember not to often. I wouldnt go more than every 3 weeks. What happened with the Pattys back when they were a new morph is that to produce the maximum number or Patternless, breeders put Patty to Patty... and then again Patty to Patty... and on and on. They did this because Paternless is a recessive trait, so if you were to breed a Patty to a Normal, you would get all Normals, het Patternless. Breeders wanted visible Pattys. So they just kept breeding them back to eachother and eventually the gene pool got so small because they were not intrducing enough fresh genes that issues such as the tail kink started to emerge from the severe inbreeding. Some may argue that tail kinks were a sign of decreased health or immune system but I'm not aware of any studies that have proved this. It's an interesting topic lol.
