Geckos are nocturnal. They do not require lights. As long as you have a heat source like a Under tank heater you should be fine. I do not use lights with any of my geckos especially not my albino because her eyes are super sensitive to light.

Same here-no lights on my nocturnal lizards

You can use a low wattage (low wattage for summer to not raise the air temps in the tank) red light bulb for night viewing

From what I have read, they don't need lights and it can actually hurt their eyes.

I have a night glo light. It isn't all that bright. It looks like a black light.

Watching Pleasure, a low watt.

So would a 60 watt bulb and a 100 watt bulb be to bright for them?

For my gecko watching and enjoying pleasure, I do use some overhead lamps. Depending on the height of your gecko's home and do to creating too much heat from any color high wattage bulb......care should be taken. But if you are like me and want to enjoy the whole life of a gecko.......use (a somewhat newer type low 13 watt gas bulb) or even a fully fluorescent fixture. As far as hurting their eyes on any morph, thats when it will go in a its hide......If it does and thats the only one in the tank. Get rid of the light. They may be nocturnal but in captivity you can see many changes in their routines. As they begin to feel safer. You would never get one to climb on your hand in the wild..........so enjoy it all. take care HJ

i think if you dont have an U.T.H u can use a heatlamp or a normal clip lamp with a red bulb (low wattage) because i read that leopard geckos cant see red and use a florescent bulbs to provide them with d3 and if you dont want to use it its fine thanks
