I was just checking out my female, Amber, because she hasn't eaten in a few weeks. Taking her out, I noticed her belly felt hard. I turned her over, and there was a very big black spot on her belly. This isn't normal, is it? She hasn't been on loose substrate for more than a year and a half(the previous owner had her on something else, forgot what). I don't know what it could be...I'm going to schedule a vet appointment for her(well, my dad is lol) if this isn't normal. I didn't take her earlier because I assumed she was ovulating....I feel so stupid:main_no::main_no:. I'll give her lukewarm baths, but I'm not sure if that would help or stress her out more...

Please, if anyone can help, then please post.

Do you have a nice camera & can you get some good pics of the spot?

I have a female with a rather large "dark" area on her belly...it concerns me sometimes, but she seems to be acting normally, eating, drinking and well...breeding normally, so I don't stress. My boss said it's most likely liver or gallbladder...the skinnier they are the easier it is to see....my enigma is a PORKER and you can barely see anything dark on her-I can't even tell when she's gravid, unless I do the math! :main_rolleyes:

She still could be ovulating...How old is she? Before you take her in, what are your ground temps and ambient temps at?

She's about a year and a half old. I'll try to get a picture, but for now I'll just describe it. Usually it's just a pinkish shadow, where it is now black. It's bigger than a quarter. The thing is, she hasn't eaten at all for three weeks, no urates or anything. I'm taking the ground temps right now, not sure how to take the ambient though.

And just a picture of her coloring-

I hope I'm just being a worrywart, thanks.

It is a pretty big spot. HOWEVER...she IS ovulating. In the second picture from the top, you can see two very slight pink circles above the large white ones...I circled them in your picture...this may explain the anorexia...

If you truly feel she is sick and needs to see a vet by all means, haul you butt over there! :) It might be a good idea to have a fecal sample analyzed anyway...

Your temps are great...
She may just be acting like a turd because she's ovulating and her hormones are going haywire...mine like to climb the walls and pace when they ovulate...

I would try some waxies for the time being, and gradually start her back on her normal diet...honestly, if she were mine I wouldn't worry too much, though. If it's only been a few weeks, she'll get hungry pretty soon.

Ah, I see, thanks Maia! What are the large white ones? I'm still considering bringing her to the vets though, seeing that her belly is abnormally hard....are they usually like that when leos ovulate? I've tried big mealworms, small mealworms, supers, and waxies were tried about a week ago lol. I guess I shouldn't worry, but she's just so precious to me.

The hardness you are feeling may be her abdomen tensing up when you feel it...They're not like our cats and dogs and horses that sit there and deal with a physical exam of any kind lol...Also, you may be right and there could be something going on...thats why I like to stress that it's impossible to diagnose over the internet or phone...

If you've got the time, and a good vet absolutely see him/her! Nothing is more relief than a healthy report from your doctor. The large, white ones you see near the vent are actually fat pads...that's why they get bigger as the gecko eats more & gets larger :)

Those larger, white areas 'could' be enlarged follicles or slugs forming. If that's what they are, then her tummy might feel hard because there isn't much room in there. This could cause her liver to be displaced so it is closer to the surface and therefore more visible. She looks to be in great health, so I wouldn't panic too much just yet... Maia's advise is good!

I agree. give her a lay box and weigh her to keep track of her weight. She looks healthy but gravid so set up the lay box and just monitor her.
